I am here, when you are ready.
Everyone! No previous art experience necessary. Everyone has the ability to create and while the final outcome of art creations is appreciated - the focus in Art Therapy is on the process and the emotional connection and growth that occurs concurrently.
To assist individuals to heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. This is achieved by providing a neutral safe space to create, express and reflect, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.
Support for you along your journey. The goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, become more resilient and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
ALEXANDRA DALZELL
BFA, DKATI
Thank you for your interest in Art Therapy. My name is Alexandra and I am an Art Therapist. I support people with a vast array of challenges through the creative process of art therapy.
It was clear from a very young age that art was an area of immense interest for me. I found the metaphorical layers to creation very insightful and healing. I knew I must learn more in order to share this gift with others. In my youth, I went on to study at Camosun College and attain a Visual Arts Diploma, and on to the University of Victoria to attain a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Minor is Psychology, and from there to the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute for Graduate School in Art Therapy.
Since graduation in 2016, I have been supporting community members through my private practice called Nurture Art Therapy with a focus on children and youth.
It has been such an honour witnessing children, youth and their families to grow and thrive in their lives alongside the special journey of Art Therapy.
Even though we will be exploring some of the most challenging parts of your life experiences - We will also be highlighting and celebrating all of your growth along the way and helping you build tools for coping so that you can thrive moving forward!
In my practice, I firmly believe that the therapeutic alliance is of utmost importance and provides the groundwork for the therapy to unfold. By creating this important relationship within therapy - a new kind of growth can begin.
Often with children and youth, speaking freely about their feelings can be challenging. That is why Art Therapy can be so effective - it bridges verbal expression through the art making process.
Children naturally make sense of their experiences through art and play.
Externalizing your experiences through the creative act of art making, alongside a professionally trained Art Therapist provides supported development of resiliency, emotional intelligence and self regulation - to name a few!

Nurture Art Therapy is here to support you in a safe way during this pandemic. All of the art created will remain onsite until the closing session of Art Therapy. Every client will practice hand washing at the beginning and the end of each session. As well, sessions are spaced out in order to provide enough time to clean in between sessions and to eliminate the possibility of more than one client in the room at the same time as each other. In addition, we run a HEPA air purifier in the Art Therapy room during all sessions. Please see our Sick Policy below.
At this time, we are conducting all of our Parent/Caregiver Consultations and Parents/Caregiver Meetings via telephone, ZOOM & I am happy to share that in-person will be offered again as well.
*Nurture Art Therapy follows all of WorkSafe BC's regulations and recommendations regarding safe practice.
At this time, no in-person client/parent/caregiver contact is permitted to attend any Art Therapy sessions/consultations/meetings if they have ANY signs or symptoms of any illness or allergies, such as coughing, sneezing, fever, runny nose etc. Nurture Art Therapy will also follow this policy and will not provide service if at any time we are sick. Our goal is the health and safety of everyone. :-)
